snacking
January 17, 2011
I’ve been a bad girl and going out in t-shirts and pants a lot lately. My resolution this year is to dress girlier, and do so a budget– rediscover my wardrobe, maybe snap up some flexible basics/nice accessories. A mix of DIY and careful shopping (hah!) .
But so far I’ve been too busy to think about it or too scared to try on some old girly standbys.
Why?
In a nutshell, 2010 was a very fattening year for me. I gained over ten pounds or so. I was once akin to a stick, now my genes are overpowering m’body and I am currently a medium-in-denial. A pear shaped person.
Don’t get me wrong, I like having curves. I just miss some clothes. Ok a lot of clothes. It doesn’t help I have a beautiful sister who’s nearer my old clothing size gleefully waiting for me to outgrow my favorite pieces.
As much as I would like to stop eating, I enjoy food too much to sacrifice. However I’ve resolved to limit rice to a cup a day, and eat more steamed things. I would never go back to being a vegetarian. I love vegetables , at the same time… pigs cannot plow or give milk. Their delicious and noble purpose in this world is to nourish and be yummy
Hahaha.
Anyway, this was my lunch of sorts the other day:
This is pork+shrimp+veg spring rolls and blanched carrots and green beans with homemade gomashio on the side. Gomashio’s my new favorite condiment, it’s nutty and a bit salty— I like dipping blanched vegetables in it… I even sprinkled some on some black sesame brittle ice cream (00ps!).
-I drain fried foods vertically. See all the oil at the bottom of the bowl? Yikes!
-Blanching vegetables helps them keep their texture and color. I also blanch veg before stir frying, as they absorb little or no oil that way.
I will try to keep my meals light. It’s a tough task, as I’m an emotional eater. I eat when I’m very happy or very sad. Hahaha.
sudsy love

I’ve always been a fan of Lush’s moisturizers. My nose perks up whenever I pass by their store, and the thing is, i’ve tried out and liked their beauty products (will be reviewing their Color Supplements soon), but I never gave their soaps much thought.
Until I got a bar of my own.
I bought a smallish chunk of Snowglobe—it’s a Christmas 2010 offering, I believe. It smells amazing — citrusy, fresh and somehow comforting.
It looks cute too. I wanna bite it sometimes. Grarrrr
As far as suds go, this doesn’t lather very well. I like that though, soap that lathers too much has always dried my skin out. The scent lingers long enough to make me feel nice after my shower, like any good soap. I wish it came paired with body moisturizer/oil though, I really like the smell!

The small chunk I got set me back 175.50php. Not bad, considering the quality.
And it’s a sturdy bar so far–I like it so much I’ve been finding excuses to lather up at the sink
Hasn’t gone goopy or melty at all.
Snowglobe soap, I love you!

Would you believe me if I said I’ve never worn shorts and sandals together?
I never have. At least not in the last decade or so. I’m not very comfortable with wearing shorts outside of our village. I guess it goes with being a commuter — less attention, the better yeah? But now that I’ve been taking my beat up ol’ car to places, I reckon I can risk baring a little.
I tried out my denim shorts with a girly top, paired them with my only pair of high-heeled sandals.
And got as far as the garage.

Today’s pretty much errands day fer me — had to drop off the laundry at the cleaner’s, pay bills at the bank. Do a little grocery shopping and drop off papers. Comfort is key!
I found myself reaching for a big shirt, cargo pants and sneakers but stopped and looked for alternatives. Found this comfy long shirt, a pair of slacks that I got sometime ago ( I liked the flap/pocket detail at the sides) and my favorite flats. Tucked the shirt, rolled up the pants hem… I like altering the fall of my clothes a little when I wear them.
The red bra strap peeking out is something I don’t really mind. For one thing the strap is thin and I like the touch of color it brings. Bench makes my favorite bra ever and I have it in all colors (3 pairs each) and it’s going to be a sad day when they stop producing it (noooo).
Anyway the subject of this entry is due to the fact that I accomplished all errands in record time. With much nervousness on my part because I totally forgot my car wasn’t supposed to be out. Coding! Argh. Haha.
Good thing I didn’t get caught.
howdy!

The year is 2011, I’m 26-turning-27. My name is Nayna
- I’ve spent most of the last decade in t-shirts, jeans and sneakers.
- My body type is pear. Yep. I’m a pear. Smaller on top, larger at the bottom
- NC42 (I’m told I’m lighter than that but I like being dark and would rather wear a shade or so darker than look chalky)
- I have 4 tattoos. Mostly text.
- I can’t wear my hair down for longer than a few minutes. It’s perpetually up in a bun. I want to change that too eventually.
- I like to think I have ukay luck. I do buy retail, but only after much deliberation.
- DIY is love. I always try to make something myself if I can help it!
With the industries I’ve found myself in, laid back styles are pretty much the norm. However I’ve slowly come to the conclusion that I’d like to change that. Just a little bit. I doubt I’ll be teetering in sky high heels anytime soon.
This blog will pretty much chronicle how I’ll figure it out— with a tight budget, body issues and a gung ho attitude
Lastly, I like girls ( yay pride!) and I like being a girl.
It’s high time I submit to girlification!
